Sound consists of waves whose intensity varies from zero to a fixed value in a continuous manner. The intensity is converted to an equivalent electrical signal. This signal is sampled at a very fast rate. The instantaneous value of the electrical signal is then digitized and stored in the Compact Disk using a computer-controlled device.
