How is Mohair made?
All our goats live in family groups and are free to browse and graze on our welsh hillside. This helps to ensure the essential nutrients needed to produce premium mohair are provided Our Mohair is carefully shorn from the goats by myself and my son Daniel without any harm to the goats. We shear the goats twice a year, in the spring and in the autumn. The goats will produce varying amounts of mohair per year depending on size, age etc. The goats are sheared on rubber mat so that the goat has a soft surface to be sheared on and lessens the possibility of debris getting into the fleece. The mohair is then collected into paper sacks and then sorted by hand to remove any debris in the fleece. The fleece is then washed in very hot water and detergent to remove grease and then dried. When dry it is then carded and spun into luxurious yarn.
