How is Metro progressing on finding a new use for the existing hospital property?
Metro has a developer and an investor interested in building condominiums where the hospital now stands. Both the city and the neighborhood association have said they would prefer this type of new use to a continued institutional use. This approach will only be economically feasible if the hospital is successful in winning the tax breaks that come with being declared a “Renaissance Zone”. The process of pursuing this designation has begun; a final answer is likely this fall.
