How is metal recycled?
Some collection schemes collect aluminium and steel together. The first job is to separate the steel from the aluminium using a magnet. Any impurities are removed from the metal. If the load is contaminated with other items or materials it may not be suitable for recycling. To avoid contamination please follow the instructions at the recycling point. Once the metal is separated and cleaned it is melted down and recycled into many different products. Steel can be recycled into paper clips, scissors, cars or maybe even new cans. Aluminium is normally recycled into new cans. However, some more expensive cars are made out of recycled aluminium cans.
