How is METACAM Oral Suspension administered? Can I dose directly from the syringe?
The most convenient way to dose METACAM Oral Suspension is directly from the syringe. For small dogs, a special 0.5 mg/mL concentration was developed that offers a syringe calibrated in 1-lb increments. Dogs weighing 1 to 10 lbs can be given drops (from the bottle, not the syringe) either mixed with food or placed directly in the mouth. For dogs under 1 lb, never administer drops directly into the mouth, only onto food. For dogs weighing more than 10 lbs, the 1.5 mg/mL concentration, which is calibrated in 5-lb increments, offers the greatest convenience. For dogs over 10 lbs, this suspension can be administered onto the dog’s food or directly into the dog’s mouth. For dogs weighing less than 10 lbs, never administer drops directly into the mouth, only onto food.
