How is mental health important into an individual?
Mental health is important to an individual in the sense that if you have a ‘deviation from the ideal mental health’ you are classed as abnormal. There are 3 criteria that define abnormality; 1) deviation from social norms basically what society classes as acceptable – so e.g. its acceptable for a businesswoman to wear a bikini on the beach, whereas she would be deemed by society as abnormal if she wore a bikin to work. 2) deviation from ideal mental health some man called Jahoda created a list of what the ideal mental health was, and he stated that any of these missing was abnormal. but as you’ll see on the list – its almost impossible for everyone to achieve all the criteria on the list 3) failure to function adequately feeling like you’re unable to get on with life such as getting out of bed in the morning and going to work. so any of these definition could show lack of mental health which is important for relationships and day to day functioning. abnormality is usually only the res
