How does one become a Medical Illustrator? Does it require special training? The majority of medical illustrators in the United States and Canada have a master’s degree from an accredited graduate program in medical illustration. Currently five accredited programs exist in the United States, each accepting between 3 and 12 students per year. While U.S. agencies do not accredit outside the United States, the American Accreditation Review Committee recognized in 1993 that the medical illustration program at the University of Toronto demonstrated compliance with accreditation standards.
