How is mastitis of the breast treated?
It is important to call your doctor right away if you have symptoms of cellulitis. It is important to be treated as soon as possible to prevent the infection from spreading. Any one or more of the following may be done: • You may have an ultrasound. • Antibiotics may be started. • You may need to be seen by a surgeon. For any discomfort, your doctor may suggest that you: • take acetaminophen (e.g. Tylenol) • apply a cold pack to the breast to help manage the discomfort. • wear a well-fitting bra and not do any movements that would cause your breasts to move After you have had mastitis, the area of the infection may change in texture (feel).
