How is Maple Leaf Foods changing its business model to increase profitability?
We are restructuring our hog production business – moving from partial ownership of approximately 2.8 million hogs to 100% ownership of approximately 800,000 to one million hogs. We are also reducing the amount of pork we process from over seven million hogs a year to approximately 4.3 million. At the same time, we are investing significantly in growing our higher margin packaged meat, meals and bakery businesses.
