How is long division taught in Spanish primary schools?
When our Mexican cousins were visiting, they seemed to do long division the same way everyone else does it. Why not simply teach your daughter how to do it, the way you do. The important thing is that she is able to divide numbers, whether in English or in Spanish. There have been several changes in division technique over the years – even in English – and today some grandparents haven’t a clue what their grandkids are doing when they launch off into math. Many of the newer techniques seem needlessly complicated, and a return to the basic methodology would make life easier for the kids, for their parents, and for the teachers.
