I am an American who is married to a Tunisian. We have three children and I am currently pregnant with our fourth, and I have been living in Tunisia 7+ years. My husband and I are very fortunate because we have a good marriage and a happy life together. There are of course people who have problems. Any time there is a relationship between people of different cultures/societies/backgrounds/religions… it means that there will need to be more work on the relationship. This is due to overcoming the differences. You have to truly communicate with one another and understand not only what the other is saying, but what they mean (a LOT can get misunderstood – especially in the early years). Family is very important here in Tunisia. Everyone in the family looks out for and helps one another – even after they become of age, get married and move out.
