Jadeite is one of two minerals that can be called jade (the other one is Nephrite). It is harder than steel and cannot be carved like materials used for sculpture. It is shaped by grinding and polishing. Jadeite is the more valued type of jade (especially jadeite from Burma) because of its highly prized colors and translucence.
