How is it “stock car” racing?

0

Stock car does not refer to the parts of the car but rather the shape of the car. Stock car racing started with moonshiners racing their modified cars when they were not running moonshine. It was important to them that the cars look just like any car but be able to go much faster. This was so that cops couldn’t easily identify the cars of runners. It all goes back to the airplane pilots and mechanics that came back from WWI and WWII modifying parts has a hobby. Other types of racing came from part-tinkers designing different types of cars and the moonshiners got with them for the parts that would fit in ‘stock’ cars.
