How is it not descrimination to ban piercings and/or tattoos from workplaces?

Well, I have piercings and tattoos, so don’t get me wrong. But I do not think it is the same as race, religion or sexual preference because it is a lifestyle decision. You are not born with tattoos or piercings, you elect to have them done. Companies may decide what kind of professional atmosphere they want in the workplace in order to enhance productivity. In my company, tattoos and piercings are fine, and I think the relaxed atmosphere boosts productivity. But companies should be able to make the call based on their own internal policies — not because the government determines that it is discrimination.
