How is intracranial pressure monitored?
ICP monitoring involves a doctor placing an intracranial pressure catheter under the skull on the brain tissue surface. This catheter is a small 2mm wide sensing device. When placed inside the head it senses the pressure inside the skull and sends its measurements to a recording device, which then displays the pressure on the monitor at the bedside. The reading from the intracranial pressure monitor enables doctors to guide treatment for patients with head injuries.
