I love Indian food. It is one of my favorite ethnic foods tied up there with Italian. I am an American woman that grew up eating pretty plain food based on a lot of German and great depression era recipes. My normal day to day diet is probably considered very American but when I want to go to a great restaurant with my husband it is most likely going to be Indian followed up by Italian, Mexican, Chinese, Persian, German, American steak house, Thai, Brazilian, Jamaican, Korean or other in that order (depending on where we are and what is available). I would say Indian food is one of the least understood and underestimated in the mainstream American culture but is quickly growing interest, especially in larger cities if it is not already an integral part of a diverse thriving culture like some metropolitan areas are. I say it is misunderstood and underestimated because many people that have never tried Indian food are put off by the color and names of many items that they don’t understan
