How is Indian and Northern Affairs Canada (INAC) engaging First Nations on the Indian Government Support Program changes?

A. As part of a regular cycle, all Government of Canada programs are subject to reviews and renewal. Chiefs and councillors were advised of the department’s intent to engage via a letter dated February 5, 2009. Meetings are being held across Canada with chiefs and councillors and with First Nation administrators. National meetings of two to three day sessions will be held with First Nation administrators. Two-day sessions with tribal council administrators will also be held. Additionally, INAC will be seeking expert advice from an external advisory panel that was selected by INAC.
