How is Honolulu for seniors to live?
My goodness, back in the 60’s there just weren’t the number of cars and crowds there are now in Honolulu, but even mainland cities are jam-packed now, so no difference there! Not like it was in the 60’s, but younger people in Hawaii relative to younger people on the mainland still respect and look up to elders and seniors. They retain a certain importance and dignity I feel less elsewhere in the states, and a place in the family. You feel it on the streets, in the grocery stores, on The Bus, and in restaurants. People will still almost always give up their seats to let them sit down. A lot of substantial senior discounts for public services, stores and restaurants. The grandparents are invitied to dinner a lot more and you see them with the family in restaurants. The tempo of life is still slower on the islands, whereas the quick tempo on the mainland makes us more impatient with elders because they just move slower and are in the way more.
