How is HomeAid Michigan different from Habitat for Humanity?
HomeAid Michigan and Habitat for Humanity Michigan are pleased to be partners in Michigan’s Campaign to End Homelessness and the Living in Michigan coalition. In fact, HomeAid Michigan’s founding board president, William Dykhuis, is a long-time, decorated supporter of Habitat for Humanity. Like Mr. Dykhuis, any champion of housing realizes that Habitat and HomeAid serve useful, complimentary functions, which may be summarized as follows: Habitat focuses on building single-family homes. HomeAid primarily completes multiple-family, multi-dwelling units. Habitat focuses on homeownership—truly permanent housing. HomeAid builds housing that stands in the gap for those who are temporarily homeless as a means of keeping them off the streets and out of “shelters.” As such HomeAid housing may be either transitional or permanent supportive, whereas Habitat housing is for those who are able to realize the ultimate dream of homeownership.
