How is hip dysplasia diagnosed?
Accurate diagnosis can be established only by radiographic examination. The dog is anesthetized or deeply sedated allowing the hind limbs to be extended and positioned very carefully. An x-ray film is taken and submitted for diagnosis to a veterinary radiologist. Only in this way can the dog with slight hip dysplasia be distinguished with certainty from the normal dog.
