How is Hepatitis D Linked to Hepatitis B?
Hepatitis D is also known as HDV; is the smallest known animal virus in the world. A person cannot be infected with Hepatitis D unless they are already infected with Hepatitis B. If a person becomes infected with both viruses at the same time, they will have more acute symptoms. They will also become immune to both viruses later on in life. If a person suffers from chronic Hepatitis B is then infected with Hepatitis D, they can have much more of a severe illness. There is also a possibility of early death, also known as a super infection.
