How is heathcliffs everlasting love destructive throughout wuthering heights?
Heathcliff’s passionate love for Cathy prevent Cathy and Edgar being truly happy with their marriage. Heathcliff treats his wife, Isabella, poorly as he has no feelings for her. He simply married her to gain revenge on Cathy and Edgar. This also destroys Isabella’s relationship with her brother, Edgar, as he disowns her. It is one of the factors which drive Heathcliff to seek revenge on the second generation. He hates Catherine Linton on her father’s behalf, and seeks to destroy her by making her marry his sickly son and taking over her house when Linton Heathcliff dies. On a Gothic element, it prevents Cathy resting and moving on to the afterlife. She continues to haunt Heathcliff.
