How is heart rate measured?
The best time to measure for your benchmark “resting heart rate” is in the morning shortly after you awake. Wearing a heart rate monitor is the easiest way to measure your heart rate. Without using a heart rate monitor, you can feel your heart beats by putting a finger or fingers over an artery that is close to the surface, usually the carotid artery in your neck or the radial artery on the under side your wrist. Viewing a watch or clock with a minute hand, place your index finger on the side of your neck between the middle of your collar bone and your jaw line (or directly over the radial artery on the under side of your wrist) and count the number of heart beats in one minute.
