How is Grameen America different than other Microfinance Institutions in the U.S.?

While there are many reasons that make Grameen America unique our focus on the poorest of the poor really makes us stand apart from other Microfinance Institutions. Grameen America’s borrowers generally make less than $15,000 per year. As a result, our loan size is kept to a manageable amount, starting around $1,500. Loans are repaid every week, as opposed to the standard monthly repayments. The group size is limited to five members who meet on a weekly basis to talk about their business. The same group is then part of a larger group called a “center”. This way, borrowers are urged to become part of a community.
