How is Grade Placement determined in STAR Reading and STAR Math and how does it affect student scores?
Resolution: Grade Placement is derived from the students grade level that was entered in the STAR program plus decimal values as described below, based on the month and day of the test. Month: July – .0* or .9** August – .0* or .9** September – .0 October – .1 November – .2 December – .3 January – .4 February – .5 March – .6 April – .7 May – .8 June – .9 Day of the Month: 1,2,3 – +.00 4,5,6 – +.01 7,8,9 – +.02 10,11,12 – +.03 13,14,15 – +.04 16,17,18 – +.05 19,20,21 – +.06 22,23,24 – +.07 25,26,27 – +.08 28,29,30,31 – +.09 *Grade Placement ends in .00 during July and August if the computer date is prior to school year start date or within the first three months of the school year start date. **Grade Placement ends in .99 during July and August if the computer date is within the final three months of the school year or beyond the school year end date.
