How is gonorrhea spread?
Gonorrhea is usually spread as an STD via vaginal, anal or oral contact with an infected partner. Because the bacterium that causes Gonorrhea can survive outside of the body for a limited period of time, it is possible to contract the STD via contact with discharge on a towel or other object used by an infected individual. However, given the short lifespan of the Gonorrhea bacteria outside of the body, this method of contraction is extremely rare. Pregnant women can also pass their Gonorrhea onto their baby during childbirth, so it is vital that such women reduce the risk by undertaking Gonorrhea testing to see whether they need treatment for the STD.
