How is gold made into rings?
Gold has been made into jewelry, particularly rings, for thousands of years. Though technology has changed, many of the processes remain the same for turning gold into rings.DesignThe design for a ring is sketched out on a piece of paper. After that, the design is etched into a sturdy wax.Lost Wax CastingThe wax is made into a casting. This is done by surrounding the wax mold with a type of ceramic shell. The mold is heated until all of the wax is melted, leaving the hollow shell where the gold will be poured.PouringThe gold is heated until molten. This requires a temperature of 1064.43° C (1947.9741° F). The melted gold is then poured into the casting and allowed to cool.CoolingThe casting is cooled and broken by dipping in water. As the casting breaks, the gold piece is revealed.
