How is giftedness identified?
Usually a child qualifies for gifted education through testing. These tests test HOW a person thinks as opposed to what they know. If a child scores in the 97th percentile they are considered to be gifted and need the curriculum to be adapted to their pace and learning style in order to succeed and progress. Parents or teachers can recommend a child for testing. Also, students’ work can be submitted for evaluation in order to be considered qualified to handle the rigors of a gifted program.
