How is GE preventing duplicate payments if me or my dependents are covered by another group medical plan?

A. GE Health Choice, like many employer-sponsored plans, has a maintenance of benefits feature. This feature is designed to prevent duplication of payments when you or your dependents are covered by another group medical plan, such as a spouse’s plan at work or Medicare. Under maintenance of benefits, the plan that is primarily responsible for a person’s expenses – the plan that pays benefits first – is considered the primary coverage for that person. If another plan is primary, the Company pays the difference, if any, between what you receive from the other plan and what you would have received if your Company plan were your only coverage, according to plan provisions. You will never pay more than if the Company plan had been your only coverage.
