Frontal fibrosing alopecia, or FFA, is diagnosed using dermoscopy. It is a small hand held microscope that is place close to the skin to inspect lesions. This instrument is also used in the management of skin cancers, such as melanoma. The health care provider must be formally trained in the use of this diagnostic tool. Biopsy is also another method of diagnosing this disorder. Treatment: Treatment needs to be initiated as quickly as possible to avoid permanent hair loss. The type of treatment depends upon the degree of presentation of symptoms and the severity of the pimples. Not everyone responds to treatment the same.
