How is Ford so overly associated with England?
It is not overly associated with England – it just happens to design, manufacture and sell there (also in mainland Europe). The models are (currently) different from in the US, however, and this could be a cause for confusion. The fact that Ford is originally an English surname adds to it. This is a common mistake by people if they don’t travel, and if they don’t read too widely. A large number of multinationals are US-based. My mother tells of a French woman and English woman arguing over “Singer”, the sewing machine manufacturer, each claiming it for their country (yes – American). There is similar confusion over Kraft (also American). On the other hand I have come across Americans who misidentified British bands as American, because they often sing with American accents. Of course, the nationality of companies can change, depending on ownership. Woolworth’s was founded in the US and expanded to the UK and Australia, but both operations were then sold and became British & Australian,
