How is FirstSearch protected from connection disruptions?
Power. OCLC receives its commercial power from two substations that are routed to OCLC along diverse routes. Battery backup bridges a commercial power failure and the startup of OCLC’s diesel generators that are configured for redundancy and capable of powering FirstSearch and other OCLC systems. Internet Service Providers. OCLC has three Tier 1, carrier-based, Internet Service Providers with a combined capacity of 50 Mbps. OCLC’s Internet connections are designed with full redundancy and diversely routed circuits. Each Internet Service Provider is backed up by the others in the event of a failure. OCLC will also work with users and their Internet Service Providers to resolve connectivity and response time problems.
