HOW IS EYELID SURGERY PERFORMED?
Eyelid surgery is performed under IV sedation. You will sleep through the entire operation. Eyelid surgery is usually performed first on the upper lid and then the lower lid. In both areas, underlying compartments of fat will be removed. Incisions in the upper and lower eyelids are made following natural lines and creases. Working through the incisions, the skin is separated from underlying fatty tissue and muscle. All pull is placed on the underlying muscles which are repositioned. The skin is then smoothly draped over the muscles giving a soft appearances to the surface and thus avoiding a pulled look. Exposed fat and excess skin are removed. Melting sutures are used thus avoiding having to remove them. Once healed, the hairline scars will fade and become barely visible within six to eight weeks. Following surgery, moist gauze dressings will be applied to the eyes. Depending on the extent of the surgery, the procedure usually lasts approximately one hour. In some cases the surgery ma
