How is extra care housing different from sheltered housing?
Sheltered housing for older people is available to those aged 55 and over. It is aimed at those who wish to remain living independently in a home of their own with access to some basic support services such as a telecare system. How to apply for Extra Care housing? Applicants that are interested in Extra Care housing need to register with the council by visiting www.gatewaytohomechoice.org.uk and completing the online application form ensuring that the box on the application form indicating an interest for extra care housing is ticked. Alternatively applicants can call the Housing Assessment Team on 01376 552525 to book an appointment for a member of staff to register them over the phone. Once an application form has been completed the Housing Assessment team will refer cases with a level of care need to Social Care for an assessment.
