How is environmental regulatory compliance verified?
All project protocols contain provisions for verifying that projects registered with the Reserve comply with all local, state and national environmental regulations. Project developers are required to 1) sign an attestation of regulatory compliance that states the project is in compliance with all applicable environmental regulations and 2) disclose specific environmental regulations the project is subject to. While verifiers do not conduct a full regulatory audit as part of verification, they do use the information provided by the project developer and their professional expertise to assess the project’s regulatory compliance.
