How is engraved concrete installed?
1. Thoroughly clean and depending on the coloring method, maybe acid etch the concrete. 2. If any, do repairs and crack filling with tested and easy to apply compounds. 3. Stain or dye the concrete to the chosen color or colors. 4. Mount the concrete engraver to the concrete, and cut the grooves. 5. Clean up, touch up, and apply a protective clear coat to the surface. How do you treat cracks in the concrete prior to installation? Widening a crack and/or filling it with a special super-duper epoxy compound does not work. Smearing a crack with polymer cement slop won’t fix a crack either. That crack is going to remain in the concrete, Period! We find the best thing is to very carefully fill a crack with a product like a flexible polyurethane caulk. A crack can be tolerated if it’s hidden and disguised in the pattern.
