How is EEE transmitted?
The virus is transmitted to humans through the bite of an infected mosquito. Most infections with EEE in people result in a mild flu-like illness, the infection can lead to severe and sometimes fatal disease. Persons over age 50 and younger than age 15 seem to be at greatest risk for developing severe disease when infected with the virus.
