How is Ebola spread? How do people get Ebola?
Where Ebola exists in nature and how humans and primates acquire it from their environment remain unknown. Ebola is spread person to person by direct contact with infected blood, secretions, or organs. The risk is highest in the later stages of the disease, when the person vomits, has diarrhea, or bleeds. The virus may be present in the genital secretions of infected persons for up to two months; thus, it is possible they can spread the virus through sexual contact.
