How is Dupuytrens contracture treated?
Surgery to remove the fibrous tissue in the palm, particularly when the fingers can no longer be straightened, is considered standard treatment. Surgery is done as a same day, outpatient procedure. After an arm-numbing anesthetic, the surgeon will make a zig-zag incision in the palm and remove the band(s) of fibrous tissue, which allows the fingers to be straightened.
