How is Dublin Core metadata used?
The term “Dublin Core metadata” is usually in reference to the 15 elements of the Dublin Core Metadata Element Set (DCMES) and its limited set of optional approved qualifiers tested and approved as “safe” for use by the Dublin Core community. The DCMES was published in 1998 as an IETF RFC 2413. Dublin Core metadata is used to supplement existing methods for searching and indexing Web-based resources, providing a semantic vocabulary to describing the “core” properties of a resource object (such as “Description” and “Creator” and “Date”).
