How is DLT technology different from other tape technologies?

DLT technology is actually a carefully combined selection of proven technologies, already in use individually in other tape drives. DLT uses mutli-track linear recording of digital data on metal particle media to provide very high transfer rates and extraordinary reliability. DLT drives use a tape cartridge that is 4.1 inches square and one inch high that holds half-inch, metal-particle magnetic tape.
