ophelious Teacher Vocational eNotes Editor First, let me say this: I am not a medical professional or a “new age healer” of any kind. I don’t know whether “herbal” remedies work or not, and I always think you should talk with your doctor before you begin taking one for treatment. That said, I will get on with answering your question : ) Here are some of the alleged benefits of dill: • Dill is used by people who are cutting sodium from their diet because of its high “mineral salt” content, • The seeds are used to create “dill water” which is supposed to be good for indigestion, flatulence, cramps, insomnia, colds and flu, • The seeds can be made into a tea that is supposed to help nursing mothers, • The seeds are supposed to sweeten your breath after a meal, • The seeds are supposed to act as a diuretic (don’t ask me how that is consistent with curing indigestion) • It is allegedly an appetite stimulant Most of these concoctions rely on either the dill seeds or an oil that is extracted
