I fly quite a bit. Delta is about the same as the other regular U.S. carriers like American, USAir, United, Continental, etc. Service at all of the U.S. airlines has eroded over time and doesn’t compare to most of the foreign airlines. Southwest, as well as other discount airlines like Ted, Spirit, etc. aren’t really that different in most ways that count.
