I think DK was pretty much the ultimate punk band. They had everything: -A shocking band name -Highly political, sarcastic lyrics -A crazy live show -Dislike of authority, consumerism, the Christian right, Ronald Reagan, right-wing politics -Fast paced, abrasive music with weird experimental bits thrown in -They pulled ridiculous pranks to make a point (read the story behind “Pull My Strings,” or when Jello Biafra ran for mayor) -A non-mainstream look -A simple logo that fans could easily draw or stencil on to any surface in reach -They were brought to court over their “obscene” album artwork I love the Dead Kennedys.
