How is Dalit Solidarity Network, UK collaborating with HSBC on this issue?
We are working with HSBC, Standard Chartered, Barclays and Lloyds in the UK. They were also involved in the South African Apartheid movement and so, we spoke about the caste issue and since they are expanding in those countries, this issue needed to be addressed in their own organizations. Initially, they were not much aware of the issue and so, they asked their Indian colleagues and we worked with them on areas that could be taken seriously like equal opportunity issue where people with qualifications irrespective of background could apply for all positions. They could work on being socially inclusive within their organizations so that dalits, indigenous people and others could apply. In their lending policies, they could ensure that the dalit community has access to funds so that they are financially included as well. These are some of the ways we approach and encourage them to implement such practices. ———————————————————————————
