How is cytomegalovirus spread?
CMV can be spread through direct contact with such bodily fluids as urine, saliva, blood, tears, semen, vaginal fluids, and breast milk. In day care and preschool settings, CMV can be passed among children through indirect contact, especially through contaminated toys. Transmission can also occur from an infected mother to her fetus or newborn and by blood transfusion and organ transplants.
