How is customer service different in the public and private sectors?

Jo Causon: All organisations, be it in the private or public sector, have customers. We are all customers of each other because if we work in an organisation we are likely to be a customer of someone else in the organisation. People who receive good service day in day out on the High Street will compare these experiences to how they are treated by their local authority or hospital. Also, ultimately whether you are in the public sector or private sector you are serving customers regardless of whether you call them customers or citizens. At the end of the day it is about delivering to those groups of people. And it is possible. Our regular customer satisfaction survey shows that the Ambulance Service and the Fire Service are among the top scorers for customer service.
