How is couples therapy/counseling different than relationship coaching?
Couples counseling and relationship coaching are very similar in many respects. An effective marriage counselor and relationship coach are both skilled in listening, “being with” whatever arises in sessions, and are deeply committed to the wellbeing and innate potential in the couples they work with. They care equally about their clients goals for seeking help as well as what shared values are at the heart of the relationship. They also may share similar assumptions about their clientele’s potential; that the answers, healing and strength to reach their goals are intrinsic to each individual in the relationship or marriage. Both processes, too, are intrinsically inspirational. Aside from ethical and professional differences in each approach, some of the greatest differences are largely qualitative.
