How is copper metal separated using the Pyrometallurgical method from its ore?

Pyrometallurgial refining of copper is usually restricted to the sulphide ores of copper; chiefly chalcopyrite (CuFeS2) The concentrated ore is first reduced in a furnace, similar to an iron-producing blast furnace, with limestone and silica added to form slag, which can be drawn off. Iron and sulphur are then removed by blowing air through the furnace, to produce blister copper; which is then further purified by an electrochenmical process. The Wikipedia reference for refining of copper is pretty accurate, and reasonably detailed: http://en.wikipedia.
