How is COE organized?
COE is currently organized into four directorates: Disaster Management, Health Security, Humanitarian Assistance and Resiliency, and Research. Support functions include administration, travel, multimedia and graphics, outreach and external relations, and information technology. Staff number around 42, augmented with consultants and are combined US Government civil service, US active duty and retired military, and civilian contractors. COE staff members in the directorates have operational, in-the-field experience and have coordinated or worked with the military, non-governmental organizations (NGOs), International Organizations (IOs), and the United Nations. Typically they have performed more than one role and/or have the ability to bridge cross-cultural and cross-disciplinary boundaries and appreciate the “big picture” and broad perspective necessary for coordination in complex humanitarian events. Many also have solid academic backgrounds. Biographies for staff are available on this
